CPD
At the Hyperthyroid Cat Centre we are keen to make the gold standard cure for feline hyperthyroidism, radio-iodine, the starting point for each new diagnosis – and not just the option to come back to if surgery or medication doesn’t achieve the required outcome. For vets there is nothing more frustrating than having a patient who is still hyperthyroid despite having two thyroidectomies, or whose hyperthyroidism cannot be controlled properly with medication or where side effects make the situation difficult for everyone – especially the patient.
We provide CPD to vets and nurses across the region. Please contact us to ask whether you are close enough to host our ‘lunch and learn’ or ‘seminar with supper’.

At our CPD events we discuss:
- Prevalence of feline hyperthyroidism – it has risen from the first reported case in 1979 to a current prevalence in the region of 20-30% of cats older than 10 years of age.
- Current thinking – discussion on the possible causes of feline hyperthyroidism
- Current suggestions – advice on preventing feline hyperthyroidism
- Current evidence based medicine – in current research cats treated with medication have a mean survival time of two years; those treated with radio-iodine have a mean survival time of four years.
We also provide refreshments, CPD certificates and detailed summary notes. Copies of journal articles are available on this site for logged-in users.
